Dear Oakwood Families,
It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal of Oakwood Elementary School. I am honored to have the opportunity to become part of the Portland Public Schools family.
I have been dedicated to the field of education for the past twelve years as a lower elementary teacher and teacher leader. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 2004 from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in K-12 Educational Administration from Michigan State University in 2010. I am elated to bring my skills as an educational leader to Oakwood Elementary and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success.
As demands and complexities of teaching children increase, it becomes evident that we all need to work together to insure that each child reaches their highest potential. I believe that all of us, the school and the community, must work together in an extended family environment to insure success for all our students. Together, we can empower children with the creative, intellectual, and decision-making skills necessary for them to become academically, socially, physically, and emotionally responsible and successful citizens.
With that in mind, I invite you to be an active participant at Oakwood Elementary. Whether you are a classroom volunteer, a member of the PTO, or a participant in special events, you are encouraged to be involved! Parent participation in their child’s school coincides with the greater likelihood of academic success for their child.
If you have any questions or concerns that arise at any time, please do not hesitate to give your child’s teacher or myself a call. My door is always open, please feel free to stop by! I look forward to having a long and rewarding relationship with you and your family, and a wonderful 2016-2017 school year.
Elizabeth Findlay, Principal
